Fake Books
Series by David Byrne: Found books with fictional jackets
Jacket Design: David Byrne and Danielle Spencer

Notes:

A series of covers designed to replace those of existing books. Bearded Men: The Hasidic Portfolio by Robert Mapplethorpe fits over Picture This: A Visual Diaryby Tipper Gore, while The End of Reason fits over Windows 2000 Enterprise Storage Solutions, etc. David wrote titles, authors and blurbs and then the covers were designed using assorted images: Rebbe Schneerson and a Mapplethorpe photo for Hasidic Men; an interlaced lenticular photograph of fried breads for Peaches; bastardized Ishihara color-blindness testing diagrams for The End of Reason, and David's photos for the rest. When they're exhibited some people laugh immoderately and others soberly read the books.
